II- MISSION STATEMENT
The Department of Science of Education is committed to the training of qualified teachers for the Cameroon Education system. Its goals are therefore stated as follows:
- To prepare development oriented teachers of quality for the secondary and teacher training colleges.
- To promote pedagogic excellence at all levels of the Cameroon educational system.
- To carry out outreach and particularly research activities for the improvement of the teaching and learning process at all levels of the Cameroon education system.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The M.Ed programme is designed to offer the opportunity for advanced academic work in Economics to candidates who have successfully completed their First Degree and wish to advance their studies work in Economics.
The main objectives of the Masters degree in Education Economics is to equip the graduates with advanced theoretical and applied knowledge in Economics and Education with the skills and techniques of writing independent problem-solving research in teaching and the social sciences. Emphasis is placed on the spatial dimension of phenomena in the Economic development of the human society.
The purpose of the programme so far has been to deepen knowledge in the courses offered at the undergraduate level through a systematic introduction to advanced studies in the field. The programme has been introduced to reflect the new professional paradigm in the study of the subject and to make the graduate programme more problem-oriented with a thrust in professionalism. It is intended to specialise in the area of economic of education, health, climate and environmental studies, thus offering courses to strengthen these new directions. The programme is intended to produce competent graduates in teaching and analysis, capable of contributing to the high-level man-power needs of Cameroon over a wide range of professions in both the public and private sectors. The programme is intended to graduate students in M.Ed., specialising in the various areas of interest indicated.
Graduate studies in the M.Ed in Economics are designed with the following goals in mind:
- To familiarize students fully with the latest methodological developments and research procedures in the discipline, as these are being explored and promoted by the leading ‘schools’ of Economics in the world;
- To enable students acquire advanced knowledge and skills in one or more specialized branches of ( Development Economics, Health and Environment Economics );
- To encourage students to develop independent thought and critical judgment in their study of Economic phenomena and processes within their specialized areas;
To train students to produce an original piece of research of a standard comparable to that attained by postgraduate scholars in the international community.
